Delta SSG Inspects Athletes' Hostel and Other Facilities as the 8th National Youth Games Commence
Ahead of today's opening ceremony of the 8th National Youth Games, the Delta State Government has assured that it is fully prepared for a smooth hosting of the event in Asaba.
The Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, provided this assurance following an inspection of various competition facilities. He confirmed that the facilities, including competition venues, accommodation, and transportation arrangements, are satisfactory. Additionally, the state has implemented stringent security measures to ensure the safety of all participants.
Facilities inspected included the main stadium bowl, three indoor sports halls, the swimming pool, VVIP and VIP lounges at the Stephen Keshi International Stadium, and the Cenotaph, which now features two volleyball and two handball courts. The ultra-modern hockey pitch and adjoining sports hostel, as well as the Dennis Osadebey University hostels, expected to house about 70 percent of the athletes, were also reviewed.
At the Dennis Osadebey University, Dr. Emu checked the beddings, toilet facilities, electricity, and water supply, and sampled the food provided for athletes. He expressed satisfaction with the state's readiness.
"Delta is always prepared. Our facilities are well-maintained, and I can confidently say we are ready to start the competition today," Dr. Emu stated. He emphasized that the inspection was conducted on the directive of the Governor to review the Local Organizing Committee’s preparations and to ensure everything is in place.
Regarding security, Dr. Emu noted that although Delta is generally safe, extra measures are in place due to nationwide security concerns. He assured that the police are actively involved and that modern security technologies have been implemented to enhance safety.
Dr. Emu was accompanied by various officials, including Chief Solomon Ogba, Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, Festus Owhojero, Director General of the Delta State Sports Commission, and other key members of the LOC.
