Eguavoen steps down as interim coach of the Super Eagles.
In a statement at Kigali Airport to OwnGoalNigeria, Eguavoen explained that he was tasked with overseeing the Eagles' matches against Benin Republic and Rwanda in the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. His mandate concluded with these games.
Eguavoen expressed satisfaction with the team's performance, stating, “I was given a mandate to handle two games, and I’m very pleased with the boys. I also want to thank the NFF leadership and the players for their discipline and hard work.”
He added that while he cannot comment on future matches against Libya without further instructions, he is willing to provide tactical advice to the next coach if needed.
“I want to stay close to the team and offer insights that might help in overcoming Libya. Every team is challenging now, but with the spirit these boys have shown, our future looks promising,” Eguavoen said. The Eagles played to a 0-0 draw against Rwanda in their recent Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
