FASU Games: UNILAG falls to Guinean university in basketball.
Université Général Lansana Conté (UGLC) of Sonfonia Conakry, Guinea, defeated the host University of Lagos (UNILAG) 67-66 on Monday during Day 2 of the 11th All African University Games (FASU Games) in the basketball event.
The ongoing FASU Games, themed Lagos 2024, are co-hosted by UNILAG and Lagos State University (LASU) in Ojo.
UNILAG initially led in the first quarter, but UGLC made a comeback in the second quarter, ultimately winning the final quarter by a single point to secure the victory.
After the match, Team UNILAG attributed their loss to poor defensive play. Forward Daramola Micheal expressed to reporters that the team needs to improve its defense moving forward.
“We didn’t play good defense and didn’t manage our offense well, which contributed to our loss today. Hopefully, we’ll come back tomorrow and perform better,” he stated.
“The coach emphasized the importance of defense, but that was our main issue. Our performance was lacking on both defense and offense, and our free throws were particularly poor. We definitely need to address that.”
Micheal reassured fans that the team is committed to improving in their next match.
