Flourish Sabastine Shines as Falconets Extend Winning Streak Against Korea

While most Nigerians were asleep, the Super Falconets were busy securing another victory over Korea Republic at the Estadio El Techo in Bogota, Colombia. They demonstrated their expertise by defeating Korea Republic 1-0, marking their fourth consecutive win over the team in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

The Falconets have now achieved four wins from four encounters with Korea Republic in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, having previously triumphed 2-0 in 2012, 2-1 in 2014, and 1-0 in 2022. Their consistent performance continues to enhance their reputation in the tournament, with only two losses in their last 23 group stage matches.

In a game that seemed destined for a goalless draw, Flourish Sabastine emerged as the decisive player, scoring the match-winning goal.

Played at midnight Nigeria time, Korea Republic initially had a significant opportunity when Cho Hyeyoung delivered a precise cross from the left. Park Soojeong nearly connected with the ball from close range but missed by inches.

Nigeria responded as Lucky Nkpa, aged just 16, made a promising run, combined with Rofiat Imuran, and narrowly missed the target. The game saw chances at both ends, with Cho missing a shot after some impressive footwork and Kim Shinji hitting the crossbar just before halftime.

Nigeria dominated the second half, with Imuran's free-kick narrowly missing and Chiamaka Okwuchukwu's skillful run being thwarted by Woo Seobin. The decisive moment came late when Sabastine’s cross tricked Seobin and found the net.

The teams will be back in action in Bogota on Wednesday, with Nigeria set to face Germany and Korea Republic going up against Venezuela.
