SportColombia 2024: Falconets eliminated following loss to Japan

Nigeria’s Falconets have been eliminated from the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia after a 2-1 loss to Japan. 

The match began with both teams battling fiercely for control. Japan eventually broke the deadlock with a goal from Miyu Matsunaga three minutes after the 30-minute mark. Despite creating a few opportunities, the Falconets were unable to equalize before halftime.

After the break, Chris Danjuma’s team performed better, but the Japanese defense held strong. Maya Hijikata extended Japan’s lead with a goal in the 63rd minute. Four minutes from the end, Susu Amano’s attempt hit the post as Japan sought to increase their lead.

In stoppage time, Olusola Shobowale scored for Nigeria, but it wasn’t enough to alter the outcome.
