Is Pep Guardiola's departure on the horizon? Manchester City is looking at Ruben Amorim, a target for Manchester United, as a potential new manager in a shakeup influenced by Sporting Lisbon.

Manchester City is reportedly considering Ruben Amorim of Sporting Lisbon as a potential successor to Pep Guardiola in 2025 the club's management is already looking to secure a suitable replacement and has identified Amorim, who is also attracting interest from top European teams like Manchester United and Liverpool. A key factor in City's interest is Amorim's strong relationship with Hugo Viana, who is set to become the club's director of football after taking over from Txiki Begiristain. With Viana overseeing recruitment, Amorim would be a logical choice for manager if Guardiola decides to step down.

Guardiola, who has led Manchester City since 2016 and achieved remarkable success, including a historic Treble in the 2022-23 season, faces uncertainty about his future. He has indicated that "anything can happen," leaving open the possibility of either extending his contract or moving on. Complicating matters further are the financial misconduct allegations against City, which involve 115 alleged breaches and could result in severe penalties, including expulsion from the Premier League. This uncertainty may influence Guardiola’s decision regarding his future at the club.

Should Guardiola leave, he is unlikely to take the England job, with Thomas Tuchel reportedly the FA's preferred candidate. Amorim, known for his tactical skills and ability to nurture young talent, has enjoyed significant success at Sporting Lisbon, winning two Portuguese league titles, making him a strong contender for the managerial position at City. If appointed, he could usher in a new era for the club.
