Kennedy Boboye Sues Heartland for N19 Million in Unpaid Salaries
Sunshine Stars coach Kennedy Boboye, 50, has taken legal action against his former club, Heartland, over an unpaid debt of N19 million. The two-time Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champion was appointed head coach of the Naze Millionaires in November 2023, replacing Christian Obi, who was dismissed due to poor team performance.
“A month after I was appointed as Heartland coach, I was unexpectedly asked to leave, despite improving the club's form. The Imo State government wanted to reinstate the late Christian Obi—may his soul rest in peace," Boboye told *Flashscore.com*.
"I left without any issues, but the club has refused to pay my outstanding wages after terminating my contract. It’s been almost a year now, and there’s no resolution in sight. I’ve learned that former players and coaches have been paid, but my case is being ignored."
Boboye also mentioned that Coach Emmanuel Amuneke advised him to wait, while Nigeria Football Federation President Ibrahim Musa Gusau hinted at granting Heartland a two- to three-month waiver.
“I’ve lost patience and decided to move forward with legal action, as this is a clear breach of contract. It’s unfair that I can’t provide for my family or cover my medical expenses, with my life on hold for the past 11 months."
At the time of publication, *Flashscore's* efforts to reach Heartland management for comment were unsuccessful.
