NPFL revokes licenses of newly registered players from nine clubs.
The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has revoked the licenses of newly registered players from nine clubs. This action was prompted by the clubs' failure to resolve issues regarding unpaid salaries and entitlements owed to some of their former players and coaches.
The NPFL implemented the ruling of the Nigeria Football Federation Players Status/Arbitration Committee after the clubs missed multiple moratorium opportunities to address these disputes. "Having exhausted the grace period, we are now enforcing the judgment, with the first step being the withdrawal of licenses for all newly transferred and registered players from the affected clubs for the current season,” explained NPFL’s Chief Operating Officer, Davidson Owumi.
The official notice stated, “Due to non-compliance, the licenses of the following newly transferred and registered players for the 2024/2025 season are now indefinitely withdrawn, effective from MatchDay 10.”
The affected clubs include Plateau United (14 players), Lobi Stars (15 players), Kwara United (20 players), Katsina United, Enyimba International (18 players), El-Kanemi Warriors (13 players), Bayelsa United (18 players), Akwa United (17 players), and Abia Warriors (23 players).
