Ikorodu City continues resurgence with stunning win over Akwa United to climb to third




Ikorodu City, making waves in their topflight debut season, extended their unbeaten run to six games with a commanding 4-1 victory over Akwa United in Lagos. Meanwhile, Rivers United reclaimed the top spot in the Nigeria Premier Football League with a narrow 1-0 home win against Kano Pillars, and Heartland secured a hard-fought three points in Owerri with a win over Nasarawa United as Matchday 15 fixtures concluded yesterday.

At the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, Ikorodu City added to Akwa United's struggles. Tosin Oyedokun gave the Oga Boys an early lead in the 5th minute, but Chijioke Alaekwe leveled for the Promise Keepers in the 36th minute. Ikorodu City regained the advantage just before halftime through Emmanuel Solomon. In the second half, Olatunji Abdulmalik and Ayomide Cole struck to seal the victory, leaving Akwa United in 19th place with 15 points.

The victory lifted Ikorodu City to third place with 24 points, just two points behind second-placed Remo Stars, who suffered a 2-1 defeat to Niger Tornadoes in Minna.
